Reviews Overview

Most Liked

The homemade tartare sauce is a standout, with many calling it the best they've ever tasted, enhancing the classic fish and chips experience.

Generous portion sizes, especially the regular servings, ensure nobody leaves hungry. Customers recommend opting for the regular fish instead of the small to truly satisfy their cravings.

The casual vibe allows for easy solo dining no matter the time of day; diners can enjoy lunch or dinner without fuss.

The selection of finely cooked mushy peas and curry sauce pairs perfectly with the fish, satisfying diverse tastes. Benjamin, the friendly owner, often shares stories that add a personal touch to the dining experience.

Most Disliked

During busy times, the wait can be longer than expected, which might not suit diners in a hurry for a quick meal. Some patrons suggest calling ahead during peak hours.

A few visitors find the small fish size underwhelming, leading to advice to always choose the regular option.

Limited indoor seating may be felt, particularly during busier tourist seasons. With many wanting to enjoy meals on-site, this could require some short waiting times.

Though the restaurant maintains a casual atmosphere, some reviews mention that more structured table service could enhance the experience during peak periods.

Best fish and chips we've ever had! The homemade tartare sauce was phenomenal!! I would only say to definitely get a regular fish rather than small - I usually go for small but it was very small and I just wanted more because it's so good!!

Had a lovely fish and chips with mushy peas. The tartar sauce and curry sauce are also great. They also fry in vegetable oil which is a bonus for any vegetarians.

Fish and chips are always good. Lots on the menu to choose from. Service is good, though if it's busy you just have to wait your turn. If he's got time, Elliot (the boss) is there with an anecdote or two.

Having just spent a week in the Lakes and being based in Staveley. I can honestly say this is the best chip shop I have been to in years. We are a family of 5, and everyone really enjoyed their meal. Hence no pics, too busy eating. It was so good we ate there twice! So good we came back a year later. First evening back in the village and we had to have fish and chips. Hence new photos on review! The food was just as amazing as last time. I’m sure we’ll be back in a couple of days.

This chippy served amazing fish and chips with the best tartare sauce I’ve ever tasted. The staff were polite and amiable, and the price is reasonable. There were also benches outside which was convenient.

Delicious fish and chips! Ordered a small fish and chips with a fish cake and it was more food than I could manage. Would definitely recommend the fish cake, so tasty! Really friendly service too. Great addition to our trip to the Lakes and we will definitely be back.
